Orgone

OrgoneCD

Orgone release a fantastic funk soul debut album The Killion Floor. They have that similar vibe from past bands Fertile Ground, The Dap Kings, or The Rebirth. Just this time they are new and sounding stronger than many currently out at the moment. The Killion Floor easily makes way for album of the month, if not ALBUM OF THE YEAR for Soulisms. One of the most exciting albums of this month, Orgone offer slices of raw soul and funk filled grooves for your listening satisfaction. Who Knows Who is the first funk song with the bands female lead vocalist shining through. Do Your Thing is hypnotic and soulful. The next Orgone song, A Wot, states Orgones 70’s style funk inspirations, which is often thrown in, to the Orgone sound through out.

Sharon Jones & TDK

SharonJonesCD1

Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings have been on the circuit for a few years, perhaps before many of the current rare groove/live soul bands that are out now, and especially ahead of Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson. Producers like Kenny Dope and Kayne West have all requests the Dap Kings sound, and 100 Days, 100 Nights gives the listeners evidence as to why they have recently become highly in demand. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings is like drinking black coffee on a gloomy Sunday morning, warm and soulful. Saying that, the sound is less that moody and miserable, the live band energy entices to see them live.

The IronWeed Project

Aniff Akinola, is the brainchild of The IronWeed Project, he is a writer, producer and vocalist. He is also founding member of hip-hop collective Chapter and The Verse. Dust Bowl is the latest release from The IronWeed Project and is is definitely different. Inspired by blues master Robert Johnson, Aniff Akinola up dates the blues genre with drum and bass, and electronic sounds thrown in. Also, The IronWeed Project admits he hasn’t a clue about G sharps and A minors, but is trying to change peoples perspectives on music. All By Myself featuring Kyla Brox, delivers a stunning vocal performance, and through out Dust Bowl you’ll find twanging guitars, funky horns, and skittering beats. If you are want something interesting for your collection, The IronWeed Projects Dust Bowl will be the right find.

Magda Sinit

MagdaSinitCD

A short and brief introduction to Magda Sinit. Free To Fly EP covers an eclectic musical spectrum, from acoustic ballads to modern soul produced songs. Magda Sinit is apparently one to watch out for not only because of this interesting EP but also in a live setting. Magda Sinits Free To Fly EP offers six songs, they all deliver a different feel musically and emotionally. Troubles In Love, is the first song from this EP, an acoustic ballad, very expressive and raw. Can You See It In Her Eyes, is another acoustic ballad, plus the Song Cry featuring her music friends on backing vocals. Magda Sinit’s Free To Fly EP has an impressive home grown feel. Songs like Mista, Notice Me, State Of Mind, Mr. Postman (bonus track) remind you of artists like Lauryn Hill, Georgia Anne Muldrow & Dudley Purkins to Amy Winehouse.

Tuomo

tuomomything

Tuomo comes from Finland, and he really delivers with his debut album on Jupiter Records, My Thing. A combination that reflects his love for classic soul singers like Marvin Gay to Otis Redding, to even adding in rare groove influences like his song on the end of his album, I Won’t Worry. Giving the listener a 60’s vocal group feel from the soul genre, is heard. Tuomo is slightly different to the USA/UK artists, as not only is he fresh from Europe’s music scene, but his musical skills shine on My Thing. His band are solid, especially on the Otis Redding inspired My Wish, singing about his wish for a pay check.

Tassell & Naturel

tassellnaturelfoodforthought

Tassell & Naturel are a duo, who produce and play music, from Paris, France. They collaborate with USA but Paris based independent soul singer Song, and well-known rapper Guru, to create Food For Thought. Other collaborations include Marcus Miller and Manu Katche. High Beat Stone Delire is the strongest song from Food For Thought, but this unknown duo Tassell & Naturel impress. Its jazz, soul and hip-hop flavor mixed in with the organic feel, inspires you to listen more from the first song Food For Thought feat. Guru and Song. Walk With Me has an Erykah Badu vibe, which the album portrays through out, as it is a soulful/hip-hop influenced album. Food For Thought, also offers great mellow/relaxing songs such as If You Wanna Know feat. Manu Katche and the forever soulful Song.
